Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah delivered another exceptional display in Sunday’s 6-3 Premier League victory over Tottenham, scoring twice to surpass Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race. Salah’s tally for the season now stands at 15 league goals, and he continues to set the standard in playmaking, with his two assists on Sunday bringing his total to 11.
Salah is well-positioned to replicate his 2022 achievement of winning both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards. Despite ongoing speculation about his future at Anfield, as his contract expires this summer, the Egyptian star keeps rewriting records. Former Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given praised Salah on Match of the Day, saying, “He’s phenomenal. You can’t let a player like him leave.”
Salah’s consistency has been remarkable this season. His recent contributions include 12 goals in the past 12 matches and an impressive 33 goal involvements across all competitions, comprising 18 goals and 15 assists. These figures place him ahead of any player in Europe’s top five leagues by at least four goal contributions.
During the Tottenham match, Salah reached three significant Premier League milestones. He became the first player to achieve double digits in both goals and assists before Christmas, the first to do so in four consecutive seasons, and set a record for six campaigns with this feat—surpassing Wayne Rooney’s five seasons.
Salah now aims to equal Thierry Henry’s record of finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer four times. With 18 league goals in each of his seven seasons at Liverpool, he needs just five more this campaign to join an elite group of players with five 20-goal Premier League seasons.
While Salah’s performances have reached new heights, last season’s Golden Boot winner, Erling Haaland, has struggled to maintain his early momentum. The Norwegian striker had a blistering start, scoring 10 goals in his first five games, but has managed only three in his last 12 outings.
In contrast, Salah’s consistent form has been pivotal for Liverpool, who currently lead the league. If Salah maintains this pace, he is poised to break more records and further cement his legacy as one of the Premier League’s all-time great forwards.
