Leeds United and Burnley have both confirmed their return to the Premier League and are now locked in a close race for the Championship crown. Leeds made a powerful statement with a 6-0 home victory over Stoke City, lifting them back to the top tier of English football and sparking jubilant scenes at Elland Road.
Joel Piroe played a starring role in the triumph, scoring four goals in the opening half to put the game beyond doubt early. The outcome left Leeds waiting for the result between Burnley and Sheffield United to learn if their promotion was officially confirmed. Burnley’s 2-1 success over Sheffield United, courtesy of a brace from Josh Brownhill, ended any remaining uncertainty.
Under Daniel Farke, Leeds have bounced back from last season’s heartbreak, where they finished third and fell to Southampton in the play-off final. The team has shown consistency and strength across the campaign, registering 27 wins from 44 fixtures, netting 89 goals, and suffering only four defeats.
Burnley, managed by Scott Parker, have been just as formidable. Though their attacking record doesn’t match Leeds’ firepower, their strength has been in defense. The Clarets have conceded just 15 goals all season and suffered only two defeats, a record that highlights their tactical discipline and structure.
Sheffield United now turn their focus to the play-offs, after falling short at Turf Moor. Sunderland are also confirmed to compete in the play-offs, while two remaining spots are still to be filled.
Meanwhile, Southampton and Leicester City have been relegated from the Premier League following the latest round of results. Their drop to the second division was sealed after Leicester’s narrow 1-0 home defeat to title-chasing Liverpool.
