Manchester United are reportedly planning a significant summer spending spree, with RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha emerging as top targets.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Manchester United are considering a move for Xavi Simons as they look to bolster their attacking options. The 21-year-old, who has impressed at Leipzig, fits the profile of a versatile attacking midfielder that new head coach Ruben Amorim desires.
Leipzig secured Simons permanently in January after a successful loan spell from Paris Saint-Germain. The German side values the young star at over €80m (£67m), which could pose a financial challenge for United. Despite the price tag, United’s willingness to spend big this summer remains evident.
In addition to Simons, BILD reports that Felix Nmecha has also caught the attention of United’s scouts. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder, formerly of Manchester City, could be available for around €47.8m (£40m).
While Dortmund are reluctant to let Nmecha go, their disappointing domestic season has left them facing potential financial constraints. With the club sitting in 11th place and at risk of missing out on Champions League football, they may be forced to offload key players.
Nmecha is viewed as a strong contender to replace Christian Eriksen, who has indicated that he could depart Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window. United are eager to take advantage of Dortmund’s difficult situation to strengthen their midfield ranks.
To support their ambitious transfer plans, United may rely on player sales to boost their budget. Reports suggest that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is among those who could be sold to generate funds.
The club’s recruitment team has been heavily focused on Germany, with half of United’s four-man striker shortlist also featuring Bundesliga players. Amorim’s arrival has sparked a clear vision for a revamped squad, with Simons and Nmecha potentially leading the next chapter at Old Trafford.
